Program content
It is an unfortunate fact that 75% of readers only scan documents; they
don’t read them from beginning to end. Imagine the extent of
miscommunication that fact leads to? Imagine the cost of mistakes? Our
online program is designed with this statistic in mind.
We introduce writers to the techniques they need to use to ensure their
documents are easy to scan and to read. Writers need to learn how to
make sure that the reader gets the important message – even when the
reader is only scanning!
These techniques fall into two main areas: big picture issues and
the little things.
Big picture issues
When talking of the
big picture, essentially we are talking
about structure and substance issues, or structural clarity.
Planning is the key to ensuring a well structured and easy to read
message; it provides the ‘backbone’ of the big picture issues.
Little things
When talking of the little things, or
style and
presentation issues, essentially we are talking about editing
for inconsistencies and mistakes in grammar, punctuation, case,
tense, sentence construction, word choices, formatting and layout.
These are issues that hinder stylistic clarity.
Even though in a business document
little things are less
important than big picture issues, they can become a big
problem when there are so many of them, that they cloud over the
document’s main purpose and message.
The Business of Writing Online
Program begins with four courses that teach you how to plan and write
well structured, audience-focused documents in less time than before.
You learn about the Planning Model that shows you how to plan any
document in less than 10 minutes. You also learn to write effective
introductions and closings, and how to write with tone in mind. You are
taught how to structure content to be logical and clear.
Finally, you are given access to a Resource Library that includes
templates and example documents for numerous document types.

We have made sure that every aspect of writing is
covered in our online program. And we have structured it in a way that
makes it easy to use. Successfully complete the courses and we guarantee
you will see a visible improvement in your writing.
Program structure
There are approximately 16 hours of study, you have a full sixth months to
complete the program, and we will support you actively during your
learning experience. We go to a lot of trouble to ensure you don’t feel
socially isolated by regularly communicating with you via email.
The comprehensive program is made up of 12 online courses. Each course
consists of a number of interactive lessons and an assessment. Some
courses even contain useful and time-saving resources.
To ensure you never have to look at a blank page again, download a
generic worksheet, template or example document from the Resource
Library. Use these resources to help you produce a document faster than
you ever have before.
The way that each course is structured into lessons makes scheduling
time for learning easy. For some lessons, all you’ll need to set aside
is five or 10 minutes, while for others you’ll need a little more time.
Importantly, you don’t need huge chunks of time set aside to work
through the program. And even if you do need to exit a lesson before you
finish, the next time you access that lesson, you will automatically be
taken back to where you left off.
